About Forró
Forró is a lively partner dance and music style from Brazil’s Northeast, popular at June festivals (São João). The classic “pé-de-serra” trio is accordion, zabumba (bass drum), and triangle. You’ll hear rhythms like xote (smooth), baião(bouncier), and arrasta-pé (fast, party vibe).
The dance is close-embrace with simple steps—rock forward/back, small side steps, and playful turns. No special shoes needed; comfy footwear is best. Etiquette is friendly: invite with a smile, thank your partner at the end, and keep movements compact on a crowded floor. Modern scenes mix traditional style with “forró universitário,” so you can keep it classic or add spins. If you’re new: watch the basic step, hold gently, and let the music lead—two songs and you’re hooked!
